Saguenay, February 12, 2024 — Barely eight months after its founding, the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean joint venture Nutrinor-Gilbert Énergies renouvelables is moving to a new phase of its development with the acquisition of Valeco Énergie Québec from the German group Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW).
The transaction allows Nutrinor-Gilbert Énergies renouvelables to acquire the Dune-du-Nord Wind Farm in the Magdalen Islands, as well as a portfolio of projects at various stages of development. In service since 2020, the Dune-du-Nord Wind Farm has two wind turbines with a total capacity of eight megawatts (MW). The energy produced is delivered to Hydro-Québec to supply electricity to the population, businesses and companies of the Magdalen Islands, thereby helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its thermal power plant.
Nutrinor-Gilbert Énergies renouvelables will be able to count on a team of five experienced people
for the maintenance of existing assets and the development of projects. Moreover, in its portfolio of projects, Nutrinor-Gilbert Énergies renouvelables benefits from a contract concluded with Hydro-Québec for the expansion of its wind farm by adding the production of 16.8 MW.
The joint venture has an important partner: the Eastern Energy Alliance. Made up of sixteen regional county municipalities (RCMs), from Montmagny to the Magdalen Islands, as well as the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk First Nation, the Alliance brings together more than 209 communities and territories and actively participates in the development, planning and operation of energy projects on its territory.
