The Dune-du-Nord Wind Farm is the first truly community-based, autonomous wind farm in Quebec. It meets a real need, as the exceptional wind resource of the Magdalen Islands allows Hydro-Québec to achieve significant savings on its current production costs while substantially reducing GHG emissions related to energy production.
It is located on a site representative of the exceptional wind resource of the Magdalen Islands, close to an existing transmission line and a good distance from residents.
The Dune-du-Nord wind farm, an 8 megawatt wind farm, is made up of:
• Two 4 MW wind turbines;
• A wind measuring tower;
• A substation connected to the wind turbines by an underground collector network.
First initiated by the Gaspésie and Magdalen Islands Intermunicipal Energy Board, the development and operation of the park is currently carried out by Dune-du-Nord Wind Farm SEC, the project company formed by the Board and its partners Plan A Infrastructure and Valeco Énergie Québec.
